WEEK 9 DOCUMENTARIES

A documentary is a broad term to describe a non-fiction movie that in some way "documents" or captures reality. In anyway, it is a factual movie.

Documentaries can be created to be into a funny, ironic, disturbing, cheerful, poignant, hopeless or any combination film.
It is a genre of movie making that uses video & film scenes, photographs and/or sound of real people and real events which when edited together creates a particular story, viewpoint, message or experience.
Traditionally, documentaries are 30-minutes to 2 hours in length (to fit within a television schedule or for theatrical release). However, documentaries are often shorter in length, especially in recent years with the advent of the Internet and web video.

The Differences between Documentary and Film

Films are made mainly to entertain the audience; a path for an escape while documentaries are meant to give information, factual and real; to confront people with reality.

Documentaries are factual and real however films are mostly fiction and unreal. Some may be based on the real story or event, but a pinch of exaggeration or dramatized plot will be put in order to make the audiences feel hype.

Films can be very costly, all from the top cast, director and scriptwriter, music scores, eye catching location and costumes. Not to mention with all those advanced CG and luxurious cinematography and big bang special effects with huge amount of talented production team.

Documentaries are usually less expensive compared to films. It does not require crazy CG work or special effects and etc. The number of crews are as well small with single camera set-ups. The product is usually simple, raw but success in reaching the audiences.

I am not really a big fan of documentaries therefore my suggestion is not anything fancy. My favourite documentary currently which I recently discovered is "Sudirman: A Singing Legend in History". I have always been a big fan of him thanks to the large age gap between my older siblings and me, my big brother in fact have all of Sudirman's song cassette back in the days. Anyway, that's all from me. Thank you for spending your very precious time on reading my blog.
